The Man Who Likes to Innovate

David Burns
Vice President – Operations
David spent several years leading manufacturing operations in Hong Kong. But now he's back in Charlotte heading up our innovation lab. He's the man responsible, with the help of his staff, for coming up with cool new products.

In His Own Words: “I am amazed at the difference between school supplies of today compared to the items available to me back when I was growing up.” Functional single-subject notebooks, marble composition books, and three-ring binders were the order of the day. Buying school supplies back then was like buying socks-this is what they had, you needed them, you bought them.  Today, my children look for style and function. It has to look good, but it also needs to offer additional functional advantages to make the cut.”

David’s Favorite Product: Okay, David doesn't really use the dreamy journal on the left, it's part of our new Dreamsicle Collection. David prefers the simple and sturdy style of our MX notebooks.

“I use the poly covered personal book as my daily business tool. The environments we work in, from factories to paper mills to shipping facilities, require a durable notebook, up to the task of sheltering the paper interior. The ability to record written notes, as well as hand-drawn sketches, makes this notebook an invaluable companion.”

More about David: David joined Carolina Pad in November 2000. Before that, he worked for such companies as DuPont, Philips and DuPont Optical, Polygram, Sonopress, and Day and Zimmerman in technical process development, manufacturing management, and capital project implementation. These roles gave him a deep understanding of the equipment side as well as the people interaction aspects of manufacturing operations.

He has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia.
